Snow-Shoeing
and Winter Walking
Michael Baldwin, owner of La Source Ski
Chalet in Villard Reculas, Alpe d'Huez.
Last winter, accompanied by Douglas Philp, I
spent a very enjoyable week exploring the Oisans region with a view to
running hosted snow-shoeing holidays this season
Douglas is a fully qualified European
Accompanieur with many years of mountaineering, hill walking and
snow-shoeing experience, will bring confidence, and humour to the group
– whether you are already an experienced snowshoer, or trying this
activity for the first time
The local domain for the snowshoer and
walker is vast, majestic and largely unaffected by the presence of skiers.
The Oisans Mountains offer a wealth of opportunity to ‘escape’ and
discover a region inhabited by chamois, ibex, golden eagles and white
foxes.
The local mountains are varied and our
daily walks will take us through way marked valley trails, forest tracks
and onto high mountain pastures and snow fields leading to exhilarating
Alpine ridges and peaks. Views are spectacular in every direction.
Our itineraries are varied and will be
planned daily on the prevailing weather and snow conditions, and the
competence of the group. Here is a suggested
itinerary.
Suggested weeks: see La Source Luxury Ski
Chalet for more details
Price will depend on the choice of
accommodation - La Source or alternative self catering or hotel
accommodation. There will be an additional cost to cover the cost of guide
and safety equipment. This cost is based on obtaining a minimum of 10
persons. Ski passes will not be required for snowshoeing weeks.
